The awards, presented by the Financial Intermediaries Association of Southern Africa (FIA), recognise excellence by insurance product suppliers. For the past two years, Hollard Broker Markets has won both the Short Term Insurer of the Year – Commercial and Short Term Insurer of the Year – Corporate awards.
It is nominated in both these categories again, as well as for the Short Term Insurer of the Year – Personal Lines award. In addition, Hollard Life has been nominated in the Long Term Insurer of the Year – Risk category.

FIA CEO Lizelle van der Merwe says in a statement that the finalists have been determined following a lengthy, updated survey of financial intermediaries by independent research firm Ask Afrika.

“Our challenge to Ask Afrika was to reconceptualise and reinvigorate the awards process without straying too far from a selection process that has been fine-tuned over 19 years,” she says.

In so doing, care was taken to match the “old” and “new” methodologies to ensure results that accurately reflect FIA member brokers’ experience of product quality, service quality, relationship quality and overall satisfaction.

“Data collection took place between 14 March and 4 May 2017, with more than 8 000 contracts rated by FIA members in the process,” says Ask Afrika managing director Sarina de Beer.

In addition, says the FIA, the 2017 survey process introduced a more robust diagnostic questionnaire to gain further insight into key issues facing FIA members and the wider intermediated distribution environment. Insights gained will be shared in the weeks immediately following the awards ceremony, which takes place on 8 June.

“Although product suppliers walk away with the accolades on the night, the awards are also a celebration of the value that financial advisers, insurance brokers and other financial advice professionals bring to the industry,” says Van der Merwe.

In a message to Hollard staff, Hollard Broker Markets joint managing directors Nash Omar and Pierre Geyer say their excitement is palpable: “You might think that the fact we’ve been down this road before would lessen the excitement but, let us assure you, it

doesn’t!  In fact, it means more every time because we know the blood, sweat and tears that go into delivering world-class solutions to a market that is increasingly sophisticated, demanding and challenging.”

They continue: “It’s a great feeling to be recognised among the best of the best.  But in a year like this, that’s tested our resilience and ingenuity to the limit, it tastes sweeter than ever!”
