Around noon on Friday, 12 February 2016, a group of Daredevils – who will be running in Speedos at various places around South Africa to raise awareness (and funds) around the issue of male cancers – arrived at Nando’s Central Kitchen in Lorentzville, Johannesburg. Their unexpected arrival was greeted with cheers, gasps and not a little excitement by Nando’s employees.

The chiselled men peacocked around the head office in nothing but their purple budgie-smugglers, taking pictures with every employee in sight. They invaded every boardroom, meeting hall, cafeteria and office block – every department got to meet the men and had immediate access to all the information they needed regarding the Daredevil Run campaign.

Some wanted to know about the Speedos, which invariably get some guys nervous – but, ultimately, this is part of the point of the Daredevil Run: to raise awareness and drive home the message that male cancers are real, but so is bravery.

Time for some Nando's chicken (and a few giggles from the staff ...)

Amid the hullabaloo, the boys bumped into Robbie Brozin, the man who founded the flame-grilled chicken powerhouse. The team sneaked in a picture and invited Brozin to join them on the Daredevil Run on 19 February, when cancer gets kicked to the kerb!

Awareness-raising is hard work, and Nando’s treated the intrepid Daredevils to deliciously prepared, flame-grilled peri-peri chicken before they left.

Job done. Mission accomplished. Tummies filled.
