Cape Town’s Royal Cape Yacht Club (RCYC) bustled with excitement and energy for the event at the weekend, hosted by RISKAFRICA magazine.

Two days are routinely set aside for the regatta, now in its fifth year, to ensure there is a fallback day in the event of adverse weather conditions.

Friday was event day one, but the Mother City wind fell flat and the Twilight race was called off. Fortunately for the teams, Saturday’s weather was sunny and breezy – the perfect sailing conditions for the highly anticipated team-building race, hosted by the RCYC. This year’s contenders were a hot topic of discussion among guests in the run-up to the event.

This year saw seven teams set sail on the shimmering seas. Led by skipper Patrick Holloway, team Hollard – aboard Hollard Jacana – was filled with purple pride and determined to take top honours at last.

One of the sponsors of the RISKAFRICA Regatta, Hollard has been involved in the event for several years.

One of the highlights of the action-packed weekend was an adrenaline-charged show by the Silver Falcons, the aerobatic display team of the South African Air Force, which showed off its aerial gymnastics to an enthusiastic crowd.

Also, VIP guests got to see the race action up close from the deck of the 76-foot luxury catamaran, Mirage 760, purpose-built to host corporate events.

But this was a competition after all. Guests were eager to know who had bagged the first prize, and Hollard Jacana was delighted to deliver the goods, followed by the boats of Old Mutual Insure and iPlatform.

From all of us @Hollard thank you @RISKAFRICA_Mag for another successful regatta - and a perfect ending to the day #RARegatta2017 pic.twitter.com/OYtsdGnv8K
