Beautiful artwork of a tree.

This makes the company’s hosting of an art auction in support of emerging South African artists, at the Villa Arcadia campus tomorrow evening, 20 April, that much more special.

ROOM Gallery, a Johannesburg non-profit that supports emerging young artists, is staging the auction to raise funding for studio materials and space, a skills development programme and an internship.

Going under the hammer are a range of works by accomplished South African and South African-based artists, including Wayne Barker, Eduardo Cachucho, William Kentridge, Dorothee Kreutzfeldt, Benon Lutaaya, Mack Magagane, Sikhumbuzo Makandula, Peter Mammes, Mbali Mdluli, Mpho Mokgadi, Thenjiwe Niki Nkosi, Johannes Phokela, Michael Subotzky, Johan Thom, Andrew Tshabangu, Ed Young, Michael Meyersfeld and Sandile Zulu.

“Artinsure is proud to support the development of artists in South Africa,” says Gordon Massie, managing director of Artinsure, the specialist underwriting manager underwritten by Hollard.

“The benefits of this auction are twofold. By buying the works of established local artists, bidders not only acquire assets of beauty and significance that appreciate in value, but they also play an important part in nurturing nascent artistic talent in this country.

“I, therefore, call on art lovers to join us at Villa Arcadia tomorrow, to enjoy the art being put up for auction – and, hopefully, spend some money well!”

These are the details:

Venue: Florence House, Villa Arcadia campus, Johannesburg
