At a ceremony to mark the rebranding last week, Hollard Ghana CEO Lynda Odro said: “Today, just as a young lady might get married and voluntarily take on the name of her chosen life partner, we at MET have decided to take on a new name. We are now Hollard.”

She went on to say that the acquisition and rebranding of MET by Hollard, a process that has involved three years of discussions, allowed for the creation of a global brand with a local focus.

Backed by a bigger balance sheet, it could accept bigger risks. And with streamlined work processes and access to Hollard’s Corporate and Commercial Centres of Excellence, the company would be able “to achieve operational excellence that translates into greater value for our customers”.

Brooks Mparutsa, Hollard’s executive director: International, said the company would take advantage of the local expertise of the MET team.

“MET (now Hollard Ghana) has built a reputation for excellence and professionalism in Ghana, something we are proud of and will retain going forward,” he said.

Ghana’s Commissioner of Insurance, Lydia Lariba Bawa, said she hoped the Hollard-MET partnership would help to deepen the insurance market penetration in the country.

The Hollard Ghana rebranding represents a strong foothold in West Africa for Hollard, whose global strategy has already seen it open offices in China, India, Pakistan, Zambia, Mozambique, Namibia and Botswana.
