Watch this week’s episode of The Insurance Apprentice to find out whether Hollard’s Lisa Foster made it to the final task of this reality show-style competition.

This week the five remaining contestants had to persuade a group of technical college students that the insurance industry is the one to place their bets on. They also had to let the students know what the Insurance Sector Education and Training Authority (INSETA) does and how to get into it.

Foster, a Durban-based business development management official, focused on how the insurance industry allowed her to broaden her horizons beyond the small northern KwaZulu-Natal town in which she grew up. “We touch lives, from the individual who needs a funeral policy to the biggest corporate company you can get,” she said.

Entering the industry changed Foster’s life. “I was a small-town girl. I worked for Spar as a receiving manager. I earned nothing, I was going nowhere,” she said. “I couldn’t afford education. I couldn’t afford a car. If it wasn’t for this industry, I would be nowhere.”

The Insurance Apprentice competition, produced by the industry magazine FA News, is aimed at attracting young people to the industry.

So far Foster said she has found the competition “an amazing experience with regard to personal growth”.

There is one more task. Judge Simon Colman said “It’s anyone’s game” from now on in. Did Foster make it? Will she be tackling the next task? To find out, watch the YouTube video. You can also follow us on Facebook, and Twitter at @TheInsApp.
